WHEATPASTE PRINTMAKING PROJECT
"RE-ENVISION"
This unique outdoor printmaking exhibition features seven designs created by local artists. Artists carved their designs into MDF boards by hand, and East Tennessee State University Professor and Project Manager Sage Perrott printed the designs onto paper. The prints were installed under Perrott's direction using the "wheatpaste" technique, a method that adheres paper artwork to the wall using a flour and water-based mixture. The exhibit will be maintained until June 2026. After that time, it will be allowed to undergo the natural process of deterioration that is characteristic of wheatpaste installations.
Artists responded to the theme "re-envision" when developing their designs for this project. As Johnson City has grown and changed over the years, the downtown has become a site for re-envisioning and repurposing of space. This exhibition celebrates this transformation while offering perspective on the growth and revitalization of our community and the city we call home.
The exhibition is partially funded by a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission.
